How were the major dairy groups created?

At the end of the 19th century, some visionary entrepreneurs profited from urbanization combined with the boom in rail transport to launch into the dairy business. For example, Bel was founded in 1865 in the East of France, while Besnier was created in the West.

With the arrival of refrigerators and the birth of the post-war consumer society, these groups branched out internationally.
